A Place for Shared Sparks

One person with a story.
Another person with a story.
A conversation that lights a little more of the world.

Welcome. I’m Kate, the writer, photographer, and the human behind Ground Water Publishing.
At heart, I believe in the quiet power of humans inspiring one another — the old blogging spirit, the pen-pal spark, the magic of two flames touching. I've had a blog for nearly a decade, and I know the power of people who reach out and say, "Hey, I get it, I get you." So when I envisioned this little corner of my personal website, I knew I wanted to include a way for creative candles to ignite.

If you’ve got an idea, a memory, a half-formed story, or a creative urge that won’t settle — even if you have absolutely no idea where to start — you’re welcome here.

Not as a client.
Not as a transaction.
Just as a human being with a spark.

When Inspiration Flares… and Then Fades

Maybe you’ve been to a festival, a workshop, a panel, or a writers’ event.
You’re buzzing with ideas.
You can feel the story forming.
You can’t wait to get home and write the book.

And then — home is 500 kilometres inland.
Or a long drive into the quiet.
Or a remote place where no one around you speaks your creative language.

You sit down with all that inspiration…
and suddenly the flame that felt so strong yesterday flickers.
It doesn’t vanish because you’re not talented,
it softens because you’re alone, and you have no one to talk to about what lights you up, and maybe you realise you don’t even know where to begin.

I know that feeling.
I’ve spent more than a decade creating, writing, and building from wide, remote spaces both inside and outside, figuring it out alone, step by step.
I’ve learned how to keep my flame alive, and I’m here if you want someone to share that spark with.

What This Space Is About

It’s a place for:

  • It's a non-social media (because we are all over that) address
  • brainstorming over virtual cups of coffee
  • keeping momentum when you’re far from the noise
  • talking things out when you don’t know where to start
  • creative pen-pal–style exchanges
  • sharing excitement before it cools
  • swapping inspiration, the way candles light one another
  • connecting from Woop Woop to beyond the black stump

There’s no structure to follow.
No outcome you must reach.
Just connection — human and creative — wherever you are.

If You Want to Talk

You don’t need to book anything.
You don’t need a manuscript.
You don’t even need a plan.

If you want to reach out, say hello, share an idea, or talk through something you’re dreaming about — even if it’s barely a sentence — you can email me anytime:

There's also a free members' area where I write, which is here too. It's a place to see what I’m making, thinking, and exploring. You’re welcome to join if it feels like home when you get there.

Why?

Because creativity is easier to carry when it isn’t carried alone.
Because the world is busy and enormous, inspiration can get lost in the long distances.
Because two minds in gentle conversation can make magic neither could make alone.
Because I’ve walked this road both solo and online for years — and I know how transformative a single shared spark can be.

If you want a companion for your creative fire — I’m here. Form below, just to weed out the "I'm a four-star special services..." smarmy bots.
